The news is positive for New Castle High senior guard Olivia Valenti.
Valenti suffered a head injury early in the fourth quarter of Monday’s 60-40 loss to Central Valley at the Ne-Ca-Hi Field House. The injury happened early in the fourth quarter with the Lady ’Canes trailing 47-30.
Valenti’s head smacked off the court. She was flown to UPMC Presbyterian.
Last night, New Castle girls basketball coach Kara Joseph said she was in touch with Valenti, who is a senior.
“It’s definitely a concussion,” Joseph said. “She was able to text me and she made a couple of jokes. I think she’s doing well; they are monitoring her.
“Olivia has the biggest heart. She’ll be just fine, no matter what happens. It just stinks that it happened with three games left. She loves the game more than anyone I know.”
Valenti has since gone home, but she has a bad headache, according to Joseph. It’s Valenti’s second concussion in the past three months and she will have to see a specialist.
Joseph said Valenti’s future is undecided. There have been some NCAA Division III schools in contact with Joseph regarding Valenti.
