Brendan McKay is ready for his major league debut.
According to a Twitter report from the Tampa Bay Times’ Marc Topkin, the Tampa Bay Rays will promote McKay, their top prospect, to start tomorrow at home against the Texas Rangers.
McKay is a Blackhawk High graduate.
McKay, the team’s No. 2 prospect and the No. 23 overall prospect according to MLB Pipeline, was a two-way star at the University of Louisville. He was selected fourth overall in 2017.
McKay has developed as both a left-handed starter and first baseman/designated hitter, although he has not seen action at first base as of late.
At Double-A Montgomery and Triple-A Durham, McKay had a 1.22 ERA in 662/3 innings, with a .205 batting average.
His arsenal features a fastball, cutter and curveball and he is working on his changeup.
