Neleh Nogay

Neshannock's Neleh Nogay sets up the offense during a home game against Mohawk last night.

Freshman Neleh Nogay poured in a career-high 28 points to lead Neshannock over Ellwood City Lincoln, 58-38, on Monday night.

The Lady Lancers are alone in first place in Section 1-3A.

Bella Burrelli added 13 points and Kaylee George 10 for Neshannock (10-1, 16-2), which holds a one-game lead over Avonworth. The teams play Thursday at the Lady Lancers’ court.

Natalia Greco scored 11 points and Kyla Servick added 10 for the Lady Wolverines (3-8, 9-9).

Nogay was 9 of 15 from the field, with six steals and three assists.

Burrelli added 12 rebounds and three steals and Ellina DeLillo posted three steals.

Neshannock coach Luann Grybowski said Nogay, a daughter of former Union High and Westminster College basketball star Don Nogay, is improving in leaps and bounds. She also scored 17 points in the JV preliminary.

“There are times she plays like a freshman and is hesitant, but tonight she just played lights out,” Grybowski said. “She’s a freshman and when you’re a freshman at Neshannock, you play JV. I think in her case, it helps her get in the groove and get ready. So she had already scored 17 tonight and then she went out and scored 28 in the varsity game.

“They were playing a triangle and two on Brie (Dean) and Bella, so Neleh took advantage. She had 19 in the first half, including all four of her 3s. And she played well defensively, too. It was just a great night for her.”

Quigley Catholic 54, Union 32

The Lady Scots dropped the Section 1-1A decision on the road.

Nina Casalandra keyed Union (1-9, 1-16) with 10 points. Madison Wynn added 13 rebounds.

Taylor Kirschner scored 28 points and Hayley Drutarosky added 24 for Quigley (7-2, 10-6).

Shenango 46, Northgate 44

The Lady Wildcats hung on late for a Section 1-2A road victory over the Lady Flames.

Shenango improved to 3-8, 6-13 with the win.

“The girls stayed poised and focused down the stretch,” Lady Wildcats coach Kevin Zona said. “This was a nice section win; it’s been an up and down year. They’re eager to learn.

“I feel we’re headed in the right direction. This group pays attention to detail really well.”

Addie George recorded 15 points for Shenango and Jordan Smith was next with 12.

Shayla Stiegler scored 11 markers for Northgate (2-9, 7-11).
