The Union High girls basketball team picked up a victory last night.

The Lady Scots erupted for 23 second-quarter points en route to a 55-15 WPIAL Section 1-1A decision over visiting Cornell.

Union (2-9 section, 2-16 overall) snapped a six-game losing streak.

“It was nice to get a win,” Lady Scots coach Brian Heaney said. “It was great to get the seniors a win on senior night.

“I think we’re progressing as a team. We have to keep at it. It’s a nice feeling. I like seeing the girls succeed.”

LaDaisja Fitzpatrick paced Union with 17 points and 13 rebounds, while Madison Wynn contributed 16 markers. Nina Casalandra collected nine tallies.

DeAira Jackson led Cornell (0-10, 1-18) with seven points.

The Lady Wolverines outscored the host Lady Tigers 5-3 in overtime to claim a Section 1-3A victory.

Natalia Greco posted 15 points to lead Ellwood City Lincoln (4-8, 10-9) and Olivia Battaglia was next with 13. Isabella Roth added nine markers.

McKyla Collins collected 19 points for Beaver Falls (5-7, 7-12).

Ellwood’s win gives Mohawk (6-5, 7-10) some breathing room in the race for the fourth and final playoff spot out of the section. The fourth-place Lady Warriors and the Lady Tigers split the season series. If they finish tied, both teams advance to the playoffs.
