Attorney general should act on UPMC-Highmark feud

Editor, The News:

I am writing this letter in reference to the problems between UPMC and Highmark.

I don’t know what the problems are, but I wonder why they can’t come to an agreement that they can both live with for the good of the patients.

For UPMC to say that after June 30 a member-patient must pay ahead of any services that would be needed at any of their facilities in Pittsburgh/Allegheny County puts a lot of lives at risk because unless you are a millionaire, you can’t pay ahead. What is the alternative? Well, I guess you ignore your medical problems and risk death.

Is this fair to patients who might need a procedure?

I hope that Josh Shapiro can do something to fix this situation for the good of the members-patients. This situation needs a hero. There has to be a solution that would work for everyone. I hope and pray that this will happen before June 30, 2019.
