A primer on four-way

stop procedure

Editor, The News:

Lately, every time I am driving and approach a four-way stop, there is a lot of confusion.

Here are some simple rules to remember.

1. First come, first go. Second come, second go, etc.

2a. Two vehicles at same time, vehicle to right goes first.

2b. Three vehicles at same time, vehicle farthest right goes first. Vehicle second right goes second. Vehicle farthest left goes last.

3. Head to head with another vehicle, vehicle going straight goes first. (Always use turn signals!)

4. Recommended to communicate with other drivers. Example: wave them on, blink your headlights, beep your horn, get their attention.

Always be polite and patient.
