Shad Hanna’s East Inc. has filed for bankruptcy protection under Chapter 11.

The corporation, doing business as Shad Hanna’s East Cafe at 1406 Butler Ave., filed for bankruptcy protection on Wednesday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Pittsburgh.

The property had been on the Jan. 14 sheriff’s sale list. According to a legal advertisement placed by the sheriff’s office for the sale, the property had a debt of $581,062.39.

Lawrence County deputy sheriff Marcy Clark said the office received notification of Wednesday’s bankruptcy filing yesterday. As a result, the property will not be up for sale next week.

She said the attorney for the lender, BLC Real Estate LLC, assignee of Business Loan Center, has requested the property be placed on the sheriff’s sale list for May 13.

Chapter 11 involves reorganization of a corporation or other business that seeks to keep the organization intact while seeking protection from creditors.

An attempt to reach the corporation owner yesterday was unsuccessful.
