Sharon Regional Medical Center and Steward Medical Group is welcoming two physicians to the Steward Health Care System.

The are Brian Ong, DO, primary care physician; and Steven Hand, DO, M.S., orthopedic surgeon. Both Ong and Hand are on the medical staff of Sharon Regional Medical Center.

“We are thrilled to welcome both Dr. Hand and Dr. Ong to Sharon Regional,” stated Joseph Hugar, president of Sharon Regional Medical Center. “The recruitment of both primary care physicians and specialists to our medical staff continues to be a primary commitment of our organization. As the demand for services from counties surrounding Mercer County continues to increase, we believe this will offer patients more choices and expanded access to available health care providers.”

Hand has practiced medicine for 17 years, primarily in the Lawrence County area. His areas of interest include specialized training in robotic surgery used primarily for knee replacement surgery. This advanced technology will soon be available at Sharon Regional. Additionally, Hand is trained in shoulder, knee and hip replacement surgery, hip and knee replacement revisions, general fracture surgery, sports medicine including rotator cuff, ACL, and meniscus, and hand surgery.

Hand attended medical school at Pikeville College School of Osteopathic Medicine in Pikeville, Kentucky, completed a residency in general surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Horizon in Farrell, and a residency in orthopedic surgery at Millcreek Community Hospital in Erie. He also completed a fellowship in total joint reconstruction/ adult reconstruction at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio and is board certified in orthopedic surgery.

He joins the Steward Orthopedic Specialty practice, along with Dr. James Boniface. He is seeing patients at their office located at 2395 Garden Way in Hermitage. He can be reached by calling the office at (724) 981-2522.

Ong joined the practice of Steward Medical Group Lawrence County Family Medicine in New Castle that includes Drs. Lawrence Fazioli and David Shober. Ong attended medical school at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and completed his family medicine residency at the Houston Medical Center in Warner Robins, Georgia. He is board certified in family medicine. Ong is accepting new patients at the Steward Lawrence County Family Medicine office located at 2520 Wilmington Road, New Castle.
