A new psychiatric practice will open locally Nov 6.
At Compassion Mental Health Services, located in Suite 304 of the Mayzon Health Center, 3124 Wilmington Road, Dr. Santiago Almanzar will treat both children and adults and will be treating the dual diagnosis of mental health and drug and alcohol addiction.
Compassion Mental Health Services is a comprehensive, patient-centered practice that provides a full range of behavioral health services for children, adolescents, adults and families. It originated in response to the shortage of mental health services in western Pennsylvania, as well as to concerns about the proliferation of untreated mental health conditions, the epidemic of opioid addiction and overdose, and increasing suicide rates in our communities.
Compassion Mental Health Services provides multidisciplinary behavioral health services, including assessment, diagnosis, and ongoing treatment for a wide range of mental health conditions. It offers substance abuse counseling and medication assisted treatment to help our clients to overcome their struggles and addictions.
Almanzar specializes in managing patients with severe and persistent mental illnesses and is dedicated to providing outstanding personalized mental health care. His interest in global mental health and research began during his graduate training at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York, where he completed training at the Arnhold Institute, Global Health track and earned degrees in psychiatry. Following a one-year training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy at the Psychoanalytic Institute, New York University, Almanzar relocated to Missouri in 2013 to begin one-year fellowship training in forensic psychiatry at the Missouri University School of Medicine. He completed his medical training and graduated magna cum laude from the Universidad Autonomy of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, in 2003.
Almanzar has been board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and is a fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a member of the American Medical Association, American Academic of Addiction Psychiatry and The American Academic of Psychiatry and the Law.
