WEST MIDDLESEX – Shenango Township Police apprehended a man this week after he escaped from custody in Columbiana County.

William Swagger, 24, of New Castle, was arrested about 7:40 p.m. Wednesday, said police Chief Jason Newton.

Newton said police had received information that Swagger was near the Circle K convenience store at Main Street and Sharon Road in West Middlesex and that he escaped from the custody of Columbiana County Jail.

Based on information provided by the jail, officers identified Swagger as the escapee and took him into custody without incident, Newton said.

Swagger was arrested on a warrant for felony 4 assault on a paramedic that was transporting him to the hospital.

He was not charged with any offenses in Mercer County, but he was seen by Judge Daniel W. Davis of Mercer Thursday morning. As of Friday, he was incarcerated in Mercer County Jail.

He is awaiting extradition into Columbiana County, Newton said.
