Shenango Township police are seeking information about a man who allegedly raped and assaulted a woman June 20.

Police said the woman suffered severe head injuries and was flown from Jameson Hospital to a Pittsburgh trauma center, where she underwent surgery.

She has since been released from the hospital.

Police said they were called to the 2100 block of Martha Street around 1 a.m. June 20, regarding a partially clothed woman knocking on doors.

Officers checked the area and found a woman walking behind the caller’s house. She told police she had been sexually and physically assaulted, and her face was swollen and cut and bloody, police said, noting she had suffered major trauma to her face and head.

She told police she was walking home and a man stopped her and offered her a ride. She said she did not know the man, and that he was driving a gold sport utility vehicle.

She said he drove her to the South Hills Community Center on Martha Street, where he became violent. She tried to get out of the car and he grabbed her and punched her in the face, she told police.

The woman then was able to escape the car and the man followed her, grabbed her and smashed her head off the pavement and choked her, she said, adding that she fought back and was able to get free from him.

She ran and knocked on a nearby door for help, she said.

Police said they have a description of the man.

Anyone who has information or saw anything about the incident is asked to contact the township police at (724) 654-2243.
