A Lawrence County man is in jail in Butler facing multiple charges after he allegedly drove his car into a crowd of people in apartment complex parking lot and hitting and injuring a man.
State police in Butler County have arrested 23-year-old Joshua Michael Klein of Hollow Road, Slippery Rock Township, in connection with the incident that occurred around 2:30 a.m. Saturday on Stillwater Lane in Slippery Rock Township in Butler County. Police said Klein allegedly had been drinking when his white Ford Fiesta struck a 20-year-old man in the parking lot. Klein then ran on foot from the scene and a Slippery Rock Borough officer chased him and caught him, according to a criminal complaint.
According to the complaint, a passenger in Klein's car told police that Klein was intoxicated when they approached a crowd in the parking lot of Heights apartments, and that after he hit the pedestrian, he continued driving before he stopped the car and ran. She said he told her to run, too.
The man whom Klein hit reportedly suffered a broken nose, concussion and other injuries and was taken to Grove City Hospital.
Klein was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test.
He is faced with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of aggravated assault by vehicle, accidents involving personal injury, driving while under the influence, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, harassment, careless and reckless driving, failure to stop and render aid, causing damage to unattended vehicle or property and failure to notify police of an accident with injury.
Klein was arraigned by District Judge William S. O'Donnell of Slippery Rock, who set his jail bond at $15,000.
