Lawrence County commissioners on Dec. 20:

•Authorized an agreement with the Human Services Center on behalf of Lawrence County Mental Health-Mental Retardation to provide behavioral health services from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2006.

•Accepted an agreement with Southwest Behavioral Health Management and Lawrence County Mental Health-Mental Retardation implementing HealthChoices, a mandatory, managed care initiative for Medical Assistance recipients, available through the Department of Public Welfare, and share services with Armstrong, Butler, Indiana, Lawrence, Washington and Westmoreland counties. Monthly costs area funded through HealthChoices at no cost to the county.

•Approved by a 2-1 vote — with Commissioner Steve Craig opposing — a contract not to exceed $103,750 with Hollister Bundy, doing business as Inclusion Solutions to make polling places handicapped accessible. The county will use grants available through the Help America Vote Act.

•Took official action to hire Thomas Leslie as Lawrence County solicitor on a full-time basis; to hire on a part-time basis Alyssa Karatinos and Caleb Quimby as interns for the courts at $7 per hour; and accepted the resignations of former county solicitor John Hodge and James Papa, a full-time assistant district attorney.

•Approved a proclamation recognizing the New Castle Area Honor Guard, founded in 1992, which provides a dignified service for deceased Lawrence County veterans.

Lawrence County commissioners made appointments Dec. 20 to fill vacancies on county boards. They named:

•Commissioner Ed Fosnaught as the commissioner representative to the Lawrence County Conservation District Advisory Board. His term will expire Dec. 31, 2006.

•Sue Ascione of the Children’s Advocacy Center to the Lawrence County Mental Health-Mental Retardation Advisory Board. The term will expire Dec. 31, 2008.

•The Rev. Dennis Bupp, Mike Krol of Laurel High School and Rose Mary Rennard of Jameson Hospital to the Lawrence County Mental Health-Mental Retardation Advisory Board. The three were reappointed to terms that will expire Dec. 31, 2008.
