The state fire marshal is scheduled visit the site of a Shenango Township house fire Tuesday.

However, Shenango Area Fire District Chief Dave Rishel said Tuesday night that the cause of the fire at 2904 Cornell Ave. is not believed to be suspicious.

Firefighters were called at 4:30 p.m. to the home of Stanley Watkins.

Watkins was not home at the time, Rishel said, but his daughter arrived to find smoke in the house and went to a neighbor’s house to call 911.

The fire was burning between the first-floor ceiling and the floor of the second story, Rishel said. Firefighters were able to extinguish it quickly, but the house sustained severe smoke damage and moderate fire damage.

One firefighter went through a floorboard, but was not injured, Rishel said.

The New Castle and Slippery Rock Township fire departments assisted.
