Firefighters from multiple departments were battling a garage fire in Shenango Township on Thursday night.

At press time, they were at 750 Orchard St. in the township's Castlewood area after the fire call shortly before 9 p.m. Scanner reports said that there had been "heavy explosions" due to at least one propane tank in the garage.

Calls went out for water tankers from several area departments to help battle the fire and to keep it from spreading to a nearby home.

Tankers had to shuttle between the scene and Shenango's Castlewood station, where they refilled once their supply had been emptied on the fire.

By 9:45 p.m., the fire was reported to be under control, and mop-up operations were being conducted.
