A Croton area man is in the Lawrence County jail on charges involving the alleged theft of a vehicle.

Brice N. Wise, 19, of 505 Erie St. was arraigned by District Judge Jennifer Nicholson on charges of receiving stolen property, flight to avoid apprehension, driving under suspension or revocation of license and driving through stop signs. He was jailed in lieu of $50,000 bail.

According to New Castle police, a Crawford Avenue man drove his car to his house to pick up his truck keys about 6:30 p.m. Sunday. He left the keys in the ignition and the vehicle running. When he returned outside, he saw his car traveling south on Crawford Avenue.

He called police and attempted to follow the vehicle, but lost it, police said.

Police responded to the lower North Hill where the car was spotted, and the suspect was seen by police heading south on foot toward Park Avenue. Police said Wise was apprehended in the Wallace Avenue area.
