Civil War author Frank J. Piatek will participate at a book signing Saturday at the Lawrence County Historical Society. The signing will be from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Joseph A. Clavelli History Center, 408 N. Jefferson St. Books will be available for $12 plus tax. Piatek, an attorney with Neighborhood Legal Services, published a book, "Cannoneers, To Your Post," this summer. The work is a look at Battery B, a Civil War light artillery unit, that was based in Mount Jackson. The battery participated in 25 engagements, including Gettysburg, and took part in some of the fiercest fighting of the war. It held the distinction of sustaining the highest battlefield deaths of any federal light artillery unit. More information is available by contacting the historical society at (724) 658-4022.
