Local actor Floyd Jackson has been booked for a role in the Netflix-backed film, “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.”
The movie, which is based on a 1982 play by Pittsburgh playwright August Wilson, stars Chad Boseman and Viola Davis, It is part of Wilson’s 10-play series chronicling the African American experience throughout the 20th century.
According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, shooting is expected to begin next week in the Steel City. Denzel Washington will be one of the producers.
Jackson said he also worked with Washington in 2016 on the set of “Fences.”
“Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” Jackson said, will mark his 23rd appearance in a TV or film production.
He is also involved in a portraying a recurring role in Season 2 of the Discovery Channel series “Manhunt,’ which will focus on the search for the bomber at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. Jackson said he reconnected there with Cameron Britton, who plays Richard Jewell. Jewell was a security guard who was falsely accused of the bombing.
Jackson also worked with Britton on the set of the Netflix series “Mindhunter.”
