•Theft. Police said a camera, lens and camera bag were taken from a car parked at a Leasure Avenue home. The theft was noticed at 12:45 p.m. on Sunday.
•Accident. On Route 422 in Taylor Township at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Police said Christina R. Waite, 28, of 710 Brooklyn Ave. was westbound on Route 422 on the Mahoningtown Bridge when her vehicle experienced mechanical failure. The car struck a concrete barrier of the bridge, traveled across both lanes of traffic and struck the opposite concrete barrier. The car continued and came to rest straddling the center line of the westbound lanes. Waite was treated at Jameson Hospital. Police said her car was demolished due to heavy front-end damage.
•Crash. On Route 208 New Wilmington, at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. Police said Jeremy J. Ratell, 18, of Warren, Ohio, westbound on Route 208 about a mile east of Route 18, was following too closely behind the vehicle of James Quinn, 59, of Pittsburgh. Police said Ratell’s vehicle hit the back of Quinn’s car. Quinn’s passenger, Mary Ann Quinn, 59, of Pittsburgh, was treated at Jameson Hospital then released. Officers said Ratell will be cited for a traffic violation.
•Arson. Firemen were called to a vacant house at 542 N. Cedar St. at 12:31 a.m. Sunday. They said a fire had been started in the dining room on a built-in bench near a stairwell. Damage was minimal and confined to that area. New Castle police said although the house was secure and fire fighters had to force open the kitchen door, there is a history of break-ins at the structure and copper pipe had been taken from the building.
Police said the house had been condemned by New Castle code enforcement and was recently purchased at a sheriff’s sale.
