Columbia Gas and its employees have made a donation to a New Castle program for at-risk children.

Company employees raised $750 for the Cray Youth and Family Services’ Origins youth program that provides support for children on New Castle’s East Side, by providing tutoring, snacks and various support services.

The company matched the amount.

Columbia Gas employees made the donation after several of them had donated time with the Origins program through the annual United Way Day of Caring.

“When we went to volunteer, we didn’t realize how it would impact us,” said Tom Chumura of Columbia Gas street service. “The care and commitment of the Origins’ staff is extraordinary. Origins provides simple after-school needs for children in our community, such as a safe place to go, encouragement from people who care and food to eat.”
