Shirley L. Curry, 64, of 1701 E. Washington St. died the night of June 26, 2009, at Jameson Hospital.

She was born Aug. 28, 1944, in New Castle, the daughter of Pauline Calabria Tranquillo. Her mother survives in New Castle.

She married John D. Curry on March 1, 1969. He survives.

Shirley was a graduate of New Castle High School and LaRoche College, earning a degree in religious studies.

In earlier years, she worked for the Mental Health and Retardation Program in Mercer, the State GSA and was a former teacher at St. Vitus School.

She currently was employed by Infocision as an operator.

She enjoyed traveling, visiting Mountaineer Gaming Resort, and was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Penguins.

In addition to her mother and husband, she is survived by a son, John C. Curry of Pennsville, N.J.; an aunt; two uncles; and several cousins.

Shirley was preceded in death by her father and a daughter, Lisa Ann Curry.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Mill St.

A procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Thursday for St. Vitus Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. The Rev. James Gretz will officiate.

Entombment will be in Parkside Cemetery Mausoleum.
