Ronald E. Krueger, 64, of Somers, Mont., formerly of New Castle, entered into metemphychosis on Sept. 21, 2009, at his residence.

Ron had been diagnosed four months ago with pancreatic cancer.

A memorial and burial was held Sept. 22 at Natural Cemeteries in Swan Valley, Mont. He was the first to call this “green” burial land home.

Ron was born in New Castle on March 11, 1945, to Frieda and Herbert Krueger.

He graduated from Union High School, where he enjoyed basketball. He attended YSU, where he graduated with honors.

He played many different roles throughout his life — accountant, teacher, salesman and author. Ron enjoyed writing and had many articles published under the names of R.C. Hooker and Forest Penrod. He wrote for Sports Illustrated and Fly Rod and Reel magazines, most recently winning second place for an article in the October/November issue of Fly Rod and Reel. Besides his love for fishing and writing, he enjoyed gardening and the artist Salvador Dali.

Survivors include his mother, Frieda Krueger; his sister, Peggy Gettings; his daughter, Kami Nemick; three grandchildren; nephew, Robert Gettings; niece, Erica Gettings; and companion, Christine Kalanek.

Ron was preceded in death by his father, Herbert Krueger.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Kalispell, Mont., for its care and compassion in the treatment and care of Ron.
