Richard D. Freed, 49, of Shady Lane, Slippery Rock Township, died unexpectedly on Sunday, April 19, 2009, in Jameson Hospital following an apparent heart attack.

Born July 31, 1959, in Ellwood City, he was a son of the late Harold Freed, who died in 1995, and JoAnn Moore Freed of Koppel.

He was an operating engineer with Local 66, working for IA Construction.

Mr. Freed was a lifetime member of the Butler County Coon and Fox Club, and the Lawrence County Coon Hunters Club.

He was affiliated with First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his mother; his wife of 23 years, Kathy Mulhollen Freed, whom he married March 22, 1986; two children, Rickie Jo Freed and Dalton Freed, both at home; a sister and her partner, Reva Freed and Allen Taylor of Koppel; and a brother, Rodney “Toot” Freed of Ellwood City.

He was preceded in death by his father; and in-laws, Moon and Mazy Mulhollen.

Visitation is 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Marshall Funeral Home, 200 Fountain Ave., Ellwood City.

A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. The Rev Dennis Craig will officiate.
