At its meeting this month, the New Castle School Board:
•Approved temporary professional teaching contracts for these hirings: S. Benjamin Easler of Butler, music teacher at John F. Kennedy primary center and junior/senior high schools; Casey Diana Klos of Pittsburgh, Italian teacher at the junior/senior high school; and Nikko Jo Piccirillo of Union Township, life skills teacher at the junior/senior high school.
•Established three reading and math literacy lab attendant positions at a pay of $10 per hour, five hours per day maximum, with no benefits for the 2012-13 school year only. Hired were: Roxanne Gunn of Union Township, John F. Kennedy Primary Center; Jennifer Kraner of Shenango Township, Thaddeus Stevens Primary Center; and Liz Moyer of New Castle, West Side Primary Center.
•Approved the hiring of Anthony Biangone and Patsy Nerti as school security guards. Biangone will work at George Washington and Nerti at the junior/senior high. They will be paid $8.50 per hour for seven hours a day, 180 days a year with no benefits.
•Named Joseph Ginocchi as school safety officer at the junior-senior high school for this 2012-13 year only. His pay will be $10 per hour for 7.25 hours per day, up to 185 days per year, with no benefits.
•Approved full-time substitutes for the first semester: Jeannine Reamer of Shenango Township, Cara Sabo of Butler, Shirley Schafer of Dewey Avenue, Darin Gagliano of New Wilmington, Linda Haas of Neshannock Township, and Michael Nypaver of Allison Park.
•Approved Robert Flamino as marching band percussion teacher; David Rapko, varsity cheerleading adviser; Natalie Passerrello, assistant varsity cheerleading adviser; Colleen Fry, junior varsity cheerleading adviser; Bobbilyn Pia, ninth-grade cheerleading advisor; and Jennifer Isaac, seventh- and eighth-grade cheerleading adviser.
•Hired Alexis Maciarello as a substitute teacher for the reading and math tutor at the West Side Primary Center.
•Approved these regular substitute teachers: Ken Haylett of Bessemer; Ashlee Cain, Matthew Dado, John Kearns, Christina Pruitt, Adam Shearer, Nicole Nocera, New Castle; Marissa DeMase, Cynthia Monaco, Kayla Kauffman, Rachael Moss, Grayce Presnar, Neshannock Township; Gemma Bellissimo, Ellwood City; Phillips Thompson, Lauren Heath, David Hinckley, Shenango Township; G. Ryan Miles, Hickory Township; Lucas Allen, New Wilmington; Laura Allshouse of North Beaver Township; Sharon Ietto, Butler; Kristin Ross, New Galilee; Shanay Phillian, Pulaski Township; and Kaetlyn Blair, Beaver Falls.
•Added Jared Farris of New Castle as a substitute cafeteria employee. The vote was 8 to 1 with David Kirkwood opposed.
•Approved Justin Lamb as a substitute behavioral intervention aide at the junior-senior high.
•Added Diana Caminiti of New Castle and Rudy Spielvogel Jr. of Hickory Township to the cafeteria substitute list and Heather Ludwig of New Wilmington and Deborah Sunseri of Neshannock as personal care assistant substitutes.
•Accepted the resignations of Gary Canfora as fourth-grade teacher at George Washington Intermediate School and Michael Sherokee as Italian instructor, and the retirements of Mary Stefanis, a Thaddeus Stevens School cafeteria worker, and Suzanne Peluso, personal care assistant in the junior-senior high school.
