Helen Anne Cunningham Lauster, 86, late of Lockport, Ill., died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008, at Sunny Hill Nursing Home of Will County.

Born in New Castle, Pa., she had lived in Lockport since 1958.

She was a member of St. Joseph Church in Lockport, where she served as lector for many years. Helen also served as secretary for St. Joseph School Parents Club, served on the school board, parish council, activity center committee and was past president of the seniors citizens group. She was a member of the Lockport VFW Post 5788 Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion; sons, William and David; infant granddaughters, Sandra and Rachael Lauster; her parents, Thomas and Margaret Boyle Cunningham; sisters, Sheila Hughes, Catherine Kantes and Ruth Cunningham; brothers, Thomas and Robert Cunningham.

Survivors include her children, Virginia (Jim, deceased) Viskocil, Paul (Jill), Mark, Robert (Misty) and Sheila (Bob) Kaminsky; daughter-in-law, Penny Lauster; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Jane Latsko, Honora (Charles) Murphy, Frances Martin and Lois Brosky; and brothers Stephen and John (Linda) Cunningham. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Joseph Church, Lockport, or Joliet Area Community Hospice would be appreciated.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the O’Neil Funeral Home, 1105 E. Ninth St., Lockport. A service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, and a procession will leave there for St. Joseph Church, Lockport, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville.
