On May 1, 2009, at 1 a.m., Anna Marcella King, 3393 N. Main St., Sandy Lake, surrounded by her children and most of her grandchildren, passed away after a brief illness. She was 88.

Mrs. King was born on Feb. 3, 1921, in Reedsville, Pa., to Chester F. and Susan Katherine McElhoe. She was a 1939 graduate of Reedsville High School.

Anna spent many years employed by the Lakeview School District in the cafeteria, where she enjoyed seeing all the children, including many of her own children and grandchildren.

Her hobbies included reading, spending time with her family, working crossword puzzles in ink, watching sports and traveling.

She will always be remembered for her faith, her kindness, her loyalty and, most importantly, her love for her children and grandchildren.

She married Harry W. King Jr. on Feb. 26, 1944. He preceded her in death on Oct. 30, 1975.

She is survived by five daughters, Deborah A. Patton of Sandy Lake, with whom she made her home; Marcia J. Moore and her husband, Curtis, of Sandy Lake; Katherine Patricia Adamson and her husband, Robert, of Sandy Lake; Cynthia K. Beggs and her husband, Steven, of Sandy Lake; and Edna Jean Black and her husband, David, of New Castle; three sons, Thomas N. King and his wife, Sharon, of Mercer, Richard D. King and his wife, Robin, of Stoneboro and Jeffrey W. King and his wife, Tina, of Jackson Center. She is also survived by a dear niece, Norma Jean Wendt, and her husband, Robert, of Sunbury, Pa.; 28 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Harry W. “Brother” King III, and John H. King; two sisters, Deborah Shirk and Grace Kerstetter; and three brothers, Paul McElhoe, Bruce McElhoe and Chester W. McElhoe.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to McQuiston’s Senior Center by the park in Sandy Lake, Lakeview area library, or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Calling hours are 4 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the Scott A. Black Funeral Home, 99 Franklin St., Stoneboro. A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Tim Clark of Emmanuel Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Sandy Lake.
