Alfred Zehetner Jr., 59, of 119 S. Northview Ave. died the morning of Jan. 18, 2009, in the Butler VA Hospital.

Born Feb. 25, 1949, he was a son of the late Alfred Zehetner Sr. His mother, Katheryn Benesch, survives.

He was married to the former Cynthia Lynn McCall. They were married 35 years. She survives.

Mr. Zehetner worked for more than 30 years as a shipper and galvanizer for Kennedy Tubular Products Co.

He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, serving from June 19, 1969, to June 11, 1971. He held the rank of specialist 4, and was in the 1st Calvary Division while in Vietnam. He received the Combat Infantry Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Air Medal. He was in the Army Reserve until June 18, 1975.

Mr. Zehetner graduated in 1969 from New Castle High School. He attended New Castle Business College.

He was a member of the Eintracht Singing Society and Coachman’s Club.

Mr. Zehetner was an avid hunter and loved to go fishing. He enjoyed his car, gardening and cooking outside. He really loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren.

He was Protestant.

In addition to his wife, Cynthia, and mother, Katheryn Zehetner, survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Amy Lynn and Keith Critchlow of New Galilee; a son and daughter-in-law, Alfred III and Shannon Zehetner of New Castle; a brother, Eric Zehetner of New Castle; three sisters, Monica Wheale, Evelyn DeJohn and Hilda Izzo, all of New Castle; and four grandchildren, Nicholas, Zachary, Jennifer and Alfred IV.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Noga Funeral Home, 1142 S. Mill St.

A service will be conducted at 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. The Rev. Dennis Bupp will officiate. The New Castle Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites following the service.
