District 10 Track and Field: Yohman leads Wilmington teammates to PIAA meet
Wilmington High track and field standout Jon Yohman broke through on Saturday.
Two times. Yohman, who has finished second to Hickory’s Matt Bell four times this season, made sure that didn’t happen this time. Yohman, a junior, won two gold medals for the Greyhounds at the District 10, Class AA Track and Field Championships at Hickory High School. -

Wilmington board offers views on drill lease
Members of the Wilmington school board expressed their positions about whether to lease district land for Marcellus/Utica shale drilling. The consensus was to proceed with pursuing a lease of portions of the district’s 73.35 acres with one of two drilling companies acquiring rights in the county — Shell Oil and Hilcorp Energy.

Wilmington Schools: Visitors lobby for prayer at board meeting
The Wilmington school board opened its meeting with a moment of silence in lieu of prayer.But spirituality was not absent Monday night. Joey Commisso of New Wilmington touted his support of prayer and recited The Lord’s Prayer. He asked those who wanted to, to join in bowing their heads.
