New school grading system unveiled Friday
The Pennsylvania Department of Education is rolling out its revamped system of grading schools Friday. One thing will be clear immediately: The state will be using two grading systems — one for schools with lots of poor students and another for every other school in the Commonwealth.

Local student to perform with national ensemble
Mixing music and business provides the best of both worlds for Jarod Forsythe. One of the pre-eminent young instrumentalists in Pennsylvania, the Wilmington High School senior will play French horn next month in the All-National Symphony Orchestra at a gala concert in the Gaylord Opryland Hotel in Nashville.
Wilmington superintendent resigns
Dr. C. Joyce Nicksick has resigned as superintendent of the Wilmington school district, effective Nov. 25. Her letter of resignation was distributed to the school board following Monday night’s meeting. It was not announced at the meeting, board president Nancy Bretz said.
Open house set at Wilmington
Wilmington High School will have its open house Thursday.
Pulaski police buy school shoes for children
Twenty-one children have new shoes to start school this year, compliments of the Pulaski Township Police Department. The officers conducted a fundraising campaign and collected more than $600 in contributions from local residents and businesses.
Wilmington sets student orientation
Wilmington Area Middle/High School will hold an orientation for parents and students on Aug. 28. The orientation is for students entering fifth grade, ninth grade, and any new student entering grades five through 12, according to the following schedule:
Local swimmer earns All-American recognition
The recognition has turned national for Wilmington High swimmer Lauren Barber. Barber was named a 2012-2013 National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association Girls High School Swimming All-American in two events, the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard breaststroke.
Male Athlete of the Year: Jon Yohman of Wilmington
There was a time when one nail in the wall was good for Jon Yohman. He used it to hang a gold medal in his bedroom. However, that single nail became obsolete in a hurry. As Yohman capped his high school career at Wilmington, that wall became pretty covered.
New Wilmington considers school police officer
New Wilmington Borough is considering providing a police officer to work in the Wilmington schools. The school district employs private security officers to patrol the schools.
