NEW CASTLE — The former New Bedford School building on Schoolhouse Road is slated to be demolished.

At a recent meeting, the Pulaski supervisors voted unanimously to declare the structure a dangerous building under the township zoning ordinance.

The building has been a problem, according to Supervisor Sam Varano, who said it has been the site of visits by police because of vandalism, broken windows and kids hanging around. The owners of the building, Richard P. and Patricia McMahon of Sharon, did not attend the hearing but Varano said they have informed the township they intend to demolish the structure.

Varano said the next step is presentation of findings of fact and conclusions of law from the ordinance hearing. This is expected to be done at the next township meeting, set for March 10.

Once that happens, he said, the lawyer representing the building’s owners will meet with township solicitor Richard Harper and discuss the details of the demolition.
