NEW CASTLE —
The Wilmington Area High School Alumni Association will have its annual banquet Sept. 21.
The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. Dinner will be a buffet and the cost will be $20 per person.
Reservations should be sent to the class representative and checks made payable to WAHS Alumni Association are due Saturday.

Another $500 WAHS Alumni Scholarship was awarded to Josh Pennington, a 2012 graduate. This is the fourth scholarship awarded.

Young bowler wins another title
When it comes to bowling, 12-year-old Trent Pektas just keeps on rolling. Trent, a Wilmington Middle School sixth grader, claimed the boys 12 and under title of the 2013 Pennsylvania Pepsi Youth Championships over the weekend in Harrisburg.

District 10, Class AA Track and Field Championships: Wilmington’s Yohman was good as gold
Wilmington High’s Jon Yohman turned in a golden effort Saturday. Yohman captured gold medals in the shot put and the discus events at the District 10, Class AA Track and Field Championships at Harbor Creek High’s Paul J. Weitz Stadium.

Youth, 12, wins state bowling title
A Wilmington Middle School sixth-grader has claimed a pair of state bowling championships. Trent Pektas, 12, won the Class A all-events title and was a member of the winning Seneca Strikers team at the Pennsylvania USBC Youth Open Championships.

Autumn Miller has been named to the Wilmington Area School Board. She was selected at a special meeting this week.

Wilmington plans security improvements
The Wilmington school board approved a new security camera system for two district buildings. The district agreed to spend $26,874 to purchase security cameras for the New Wilmington Elementary school and $18,450 for the Pulaski elementary building.

The Wilmington school board is seeking a new member.Board member Peggy Foht resigned April 8. The board has 30 days to select a replacement.

He’s known by his coaches as “Davis Smith, baseball player.” The title certainly fits for the Wilmington High shortstop, who has been a cog for four seasons on the Greyhounds baseball team.
