NEW CASTLE — Wilmington Candidates:

Each attendant is escorted by her father.

Sydney Brush — Sydney is the daughter of Scott and Lisa Brush. Sydney is a member of National Honor Society, a three-year member of Key Club and a four-year member of the Yearbook Staff. She is a two-year letter winner in softball and a three-year letter winner in cheerleading. Sydney has qualified as an NCA All-American Cheerleader, Elite All-American Cheerleader, UCA All-American Cheerleader and participated in the D10 and state cheer competitions. Sydney was the JV cheer captain and a Pin It Forward cheerleader for two years. This year Sydney is the Varsity cheer captain for football and basketball. Sydney’s plans are to attend Kent State University to obtain a four-year degree in Radiologic Science and Imaging Technology with hopes to pursue a Master’s Degree in Cardio-Pulmonary Perfusion.

Mariah Carna — Mariah is the daughter of Greg and Lisa Carna. Mariah has been a majorette for four years, serving as captain for three years and the majorette feature twirler for one year. She is a member of National Honor Society, Key Club and the Yearbook Staff. Mariah was the Junior Prom Princess and a Junior Miss Distinguished Young Women Finalist. She has been dancing at Tip Tap Toe for 14 years. Mariah’s  plans are to attend The University of Pittsburgh to major in occupational therapy and also become certified in vision therapy.

Alanna Elliott — Alanna is the daughter of Eric and Christine Elliott. Alanna is a three-year letter winner in basketball and softball and a one-year letter winner in soccer and tennis. She is a member of Key Club, Peer Leadership, Extreme Peer Leadership, National Honor Society and the 2013 RYLA camp. Alanna enjoys swimming, snowboarding, and spending time with friends and family. She is enjoying the fun of sharing her senior year with her classmates. Alanna is looking forward to sharing her love of life, sports, and learning at college while playing softball or basketball and majoring in physical therapy.

Kyler Lum — Kyler is the daughter of Isaac and Michelle Lum. Kyler is a four-year letter winner in soccer and has been the captain of the soccer team for two years. She has been a member of Northern Steel Select soccer since the age of seven, and a member on the state Olympic Soccer Development Team for five years and was chosen for the United States National Region One team. Kyler has been selected as Region One Player of the Year for District 10 soccer the past three years. She is a one-year letter winner in football as the kicker for the varsity football team. Kyler enjoys art, piano and archery. Kyler has accepted a soccer scholarship at YSU and plans to pursue a career in art.

Miranda Luu — Miranda is the daughter of Quang and Wendy Luu. Miranda is a three-year member of Peer Leadership and a two-year member of National Honor Society. She has participated in the following plays and musicals at school:  The Sound of Music, Annie, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever and The Pajama Game. She is a two-year member of the Women’s Choir and a four-year member of Chorus. Miranda participated in volleyball for one year. Miranda’s future plans are to attend The University of Pittsburgh to become a physician’s assistant.

Cassidy Marett — Cassidy is the daughter of Kevin and Amber Marett. Cassidy is a member of National Honor Society and Peer Leadership. Cassidy is a three-year letter winner in volleyball, serving as captain her junior and senior years and earning second team all-stars her sophomore and junior years. She is a three-year letter winner in softball earning first-team all-stars her sophomore and junior years and a two-year letter winner in basketball serving as captain her junior year. Cassidy enjoys spending time with family and friends. Cassidy’s plans are to attend Edinboro University and major in nursing.

Julianna Twigg — Julianna is the daughter of Larry and Pattianne Twigg. Julianna is a member of National Honor Society, Peer Leadership, French Club, the Tech Crew and the National Society of High School Scholars. She is a three-year member of Silks, serving as captain her senior year and a member of the Science Olympiad team for five years, qualifying for states the past four years. Julianna is an altar server at St. Camillus Parish. Julianna’s plans are to attend either The University of Pittsburgh or Vanderbilt University to pursue a doctorate in human genetics.

    So say the lyrics of Cole Porter’s 1934 theme song to the hit Broadway show of the same name, “Anything Goes.” And so it will be at Wilmington High School this weekend as students bring the classic musical to life on their stage.

    The Wilmington school board is not sure if it will raise taxes for the 2014-15 school year. At Monday’s meeting, the board adopted a preliminary budget that keeps the option open.

  • Former school slated for demolition

    The former New Bedford School building on Schoolhouse Road is slated to be demolished. At a recent meeting, the Pulaski supervisors voted unanimously to declare the structure a dangerous building under the township zoning ordinance.

    What allegedly started as an argument over who would drive turned into a jail stay for a Neshannock Township man. Michael David Boros Jr., 26, of 203 W. Clen-Moore Blvd., faces charges of simple assault, harassment, flight to avoid apprehension and disorderly conduct.

  • Hearing set on school building’s future

    A hearing Wednesday will determine the future of an abandoned school building. The Pulaski Township supervisors will meet at 7 p.m. at the municipal building to determine whether the former New Bedford school on Schoolhouse Road violates the township dangerous buildings ordinance.
