Michael Thomas Lavella and Jennifer Lynne Demharter

NEW CASTLE — Michael Thomas Lavella and Jennifer Lynne Demharter were married at 4:30 p.m. June 22, 2012. The wedding, officiated by the Rev. Jay Bowman, took place on the beach in South Nags Head, N.C.

Parents of the groom are Ginny and Stan Lavella of 4193 Mitchell Road.

Parents of the bride are Lesa and Ralph Demharter of New Kensington.

The sand ceremony united the two colors of sand and the groom’s son, Aidan, added sand from the spot where the wedding took place.

There was also a Catholic service at St. Janarius in Plum, Pa.

The bride wore a Lazaro silk satin ball gown of an antique color with a sweetheart neckline, cathedral-length veil and Swarovski crystal belt.

Her round bouquet contained large fuschia peonies, red roses, purple lisianthus and astible with a purple satin wrap.

Matron of honor was Lindsay Sink of Mount Lebanon.

Bridesmaids were Constance DeMore Palmer of Pittsburgh and Jill Cicola of Rockville, Md.

Flower girl was Addison Zdinak of Pittsburgh.

Ring bearer was Aidan Byrnes, the groom’s son, of Fox Chapel.

Best man was Nick Lavella, the groom’s brother, of Indianapolis.

Groomsmen were Mike Van Eman of Edinburg and Jon Demharter, the bride’s brother, of New Kensington.

Music was provided by violinist Beth Argiro and guitarist Steven Raisor.

The reception was at 108 Budleigh in Manteo, N.C.

A second reception for the groom’s family was held at the Villa on July 21.

The couple spent their honeymoon in Antigua.

The groom is a graduate of Neshannock High School and Duquesne University, where he received undergraduate and master’s degrees in interactive media. He is a web designer at the University of Pittsburgh and online professor for DeVry and Chatham.

His wife is a graduate of Burrell High School and the University of Pittsburgh, where she received an undergraduate degree in political science and a master of arts degree in teaching. She is a social studies teacher at Hampton High School where she is also a musical choreographer and dance instructor.

The newlyweds make their home in Monroeville.
