Joseph Nicholas Simko and Monica Nicole Mike

NEW CASTLE — Poland, Ohio, couple Joseph Nicholas Simko and Monica Nicole Mike were married during an afternoon ceremony at St. Columba Cathedral, Youngstown, on July 3, 2010.

The groom is a son of Poland residents Joseph and Karen Simko.

Parents of the bride are Joseph and Lynn Mike, also of Poland.

Her grandmother is Josephine Scalzo of New Castle, and her grandfather is the late Michael Scalzo.

The groom’s uncle, the Rev. Pat B. Ferraro, pastor of St. Joan of Arc Parish, Streetsboro, Ohio, celebrated the nuptial Mass assisted by concelebrants, the Rev. Michael Kail of St. Maron’s Church and the Rev. John Keehner from the Cathedral.

The bride selected a designer trumpet-style gown by Eden Bridal of exquisite white lace embellished with crystal, rhinestone, and pearl beading. She wore her sister’s cathedral-length veil and headpiece.

 Her bouquet of white calla lilies, roses, and pearled stephanotis, was adorned with six miniature rhinestone crosses in memory of the couple’s deceased grandparents. Stems were wrapped with an antique rosary from the bride’s great-grandmother.

Kara Ludovici served as matron of honor for her sister.

Bridesmaids included the groom’s sister, Mary Sacui, Megan and Brittany Boosinger, Debbie Blanch, Melissa Taylor, Emilie Ridge, and Erin Meister.

Olivia Mike was flower girl.

Joseph Antonucci, performed the duties of best man.

Groomsmen were Joseph Mike, brother of the groom, Richard Sacui, Vincent Ludovici, Gaby and Tony Dibo, Matthew Stiner and Vincent Antonucci.

The ringbearer was Michael Sacui.

The evening reception was at Mr. Anthony’s.

The bride is a graduate of Poland Seminary High and received a bachelor of science degree in respiratory care from the University of Toledo. She is employed as a registered respiratory therapist for Akron Children’s Hospital, Boardman Campus. A limited-service faculty member for the Youngstown State University respiratory care program, she is also pursuing a masters degree in higher education and administration.

Her husband, also an alumnus of Poland Seminary High, graduated magna cum laude from The Ohio State University with a bachelor of arts degree in communications and earned his special education teaching credentials from Notre Dame College. He holds an intervention specialist position for the Mahoning County Educational Service Center and is the head freshman football coach at Poland Seminary High School.

After a honeymoon on the Hawaiian Islands of Kauai, Maui, and Oahu, the newlyweds are residing in Poland.
