Possible Mahoning drowning reported

NEW CASTLE — Emergency officials reportedly pulled a body Monday night from the waters of a former Mahoning Township quarry.

The township fire department, the Lawrence County Dive Team and other responders were called around 8 p.m. to the quarry, a popular swimming spot located off Eric Drive, for a possible drowning.

According to reports from the scene, divers dropped a marker buoy about 8:50 p.m., and a body was being brought to shore about 9:25 p.m.

The victim’s identity was not immediately available.
