Two reportedly injured in ATV accident

NEW CASTLE — Two women were injured, one apparently seriously, in a four-wheeler wreck early yesterday on the Mahoning Avenue Viaduct.

Jacquelyne Dambrosi, 32, of 811 N. Mercer St., was unconscious at the scene and was flown to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, police said. The hospital had no information about her yesterday.

Randi Brandt, 31, of Edinburg, who also was riding on the vehicle, was taken to Jameson Hospital by the police.

No further information was available yesterday about her injuries.

Police said an all-terrain vehicle carrying both women was southbound on the bridge around 12:24 a.m. when it failed to negotiate a right-turn and struck a concrete wall. The vehicle overturned, throwing both women from it.

New Castle traffic Lt. Chris Fabian said he does not know who was driving the vehicle.

Brandt had told police that she let an unknown man drive both of them on the vehicle when it crashed. She said he then ran from the scene.

Brandt smelled of alcohol, according to police.

The ATV was towed.

A witness told police that she approached the scene and saw a woman lying on the road unconscious and the other woman was leaning on the ATV, asking for help. She said she called 911 and did not see anyone else around.
