Man charged with water meter theft

NEW CASTLE — A 27-year-old New Castle man was arrested for the alleged theft of a water meter and copper wire.

New Castle police have charged John Glenn Salomon Jr. of 231 N. Crawford Ave. with receiving stolen property.

Police said they saw Salomon walking on Neshannock Boulevard around 11:30 a.m. Thursday as they were responding to a report of a burglary in progress on that street. Salomon was carrying a bag containing a water meter, copper wring and miscellaneous tools.

Salomon told police he took the wiring and meter from a house in the 400 block of Croton Avenue, according to police.

The Lawrence County commissioners have decided to solicit proposals for the private operation of the county jail. Good idea?

Yes. If it’s a more efficient way to run the jail, I’m all for it.
No. I think there would be too many questions of liability for the county.
Not sure. The county seems to be doing a good job of running the jail now. Why break it if it’s not broken?
