NEW CASTLE —
An Ellwood City man was held for trial Thursday in a deadly shooting in the borough.
Ian Christopher Frey, 25, of 205 McKim Way, is charged with criminal homicide and first-degree murder in the death of Keith Knox II, 38, of Wampum.
Knox was shot to death in a parking lot in the 200 block of North Street in Ellwood City early in the morning of Nov. 17. Ellwood City police charged Frey with going up to Knox’s vehicle and shooting him four times.
Witnesses told police the two had been in a fight at the nearby Hazel Manor Bar just before the shooting. The two men had been ejected from the bar.
According to officers, Frey acknowledged shooting Knox, but said it was in self defense after Knox began to punch him.
After a preliminary hearing Thursday, District Judge Jerry Cartwright ordered Frey held for trial on both counts against him.
Frey remains in the Lawrence County jail, as there is no bond in criminal homicide cases.
