City man accused in infant son’s death

NEW CASTLE — A New Castle man is in the Lawrence County jail, accused in the death of his infant son.

City police charged Terrence Renal Murphy, 22, with criminal homicide, aggravated assault and simple assault after officers investigated the death of 6-week-old Terrance Murphy Jr.

According to a report issued by police, officers were notified of an incident around noon Friday at the Castleton Apartments, 134 N. Mercer St., where an infant was not breathing.

Police went to Jameson Hospital, where they learned the infant had died.

An autopsy determined the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head.

Officers returned to the Castleton to further investigate the incident and in apartment 203, police said, discovered Murphy hiding in a closet.

Murphy had an outstanding warrant against him, according to police, and he was taken into custody.

He was taken to the city police station and interviewed about his son’s death.

Police then filed homicide and other charges against him.

He was arraigned Saturday by District Judge Melissa Amodie, who ordered Murphy placed in the county jail without bond.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 11.

Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 fell from the sky in Donetsk, Ukraine, on Thursday, killing all 298 people aboard. Many are speculating that Russian rebels (supported by Vladimir Putin) are responsible for downing the aircraft. What do you think?

Yes. All evidence points that way.
No. Everyone is so quick to point fingers, but there's not enough evidence to support claims of Russian guilt.
I'm not sure. I'll just wait until the investigation is over to make up my mind.
What is up with these Malaysian Airlines planes? I know one airline I won't be flying any time soon...
