Police probe fatal shooting at Walmart

NEW CASTLE — An autopsy will be performed today on a New Castle woman shot last night in the Walmart parking lot.

Mariah Jai Anderson, 22, of 103 E. Sharp St. was pronounced dead at Jameson Hospital by Lawrence County Deputy Coroner Richard Johnson. He said the cause of death appears to be multiple gunshot wounds of the head and upper body.

Johnson said Anderson, a Walmart employee, got off work and into her car parked in the store lot, about 11:15 p.m.

Video surveillance, he said, shows a man getting out of a car, also parked in the lot, approaching Anderson’s vehicle and firing shots into her vehicle. The tape shows at least four shots were fired, he said.

Johnson said Anderson had put the vehicle into reverse. The car traveled in a circle, over a curb and into a tree.

The autopsy will be held later today at Heritage Valley Health System in Beaver.

State police major crime unit is piecing together what happened.

Anyone with information is asked to contact state police at (724) 598-2211.
