NEW CASTLE —
New Castle police are investigating a rash of truck battery thefts from vehicles parked in lots in the city.
Five batteries were reported stolen from two mail trucks parked in a lot in the 500 block of Cascade Street, between Jan. 8 and 9.
Four truck batteries were reported stolen from a tractor-trailer parked in a lot in the 1100 block of Grandview Avenue overnight Friday to Saturday. It was the second theft that had occurred on the lot last week, police were told.
Three truck batteries also were reported stolen from a tractor-trailer parked in the 700 block of Moravia Street Friday.
Anyone who has information about the thefts is asked to contact the city police at (724) 656-3570.
Other local police departments have reported similar incidents in the county in recent weeks.

‘Carelessness’ caused Overlook fire
The state fire marshal has determined a blaze at the Overlook Health and Rehabilitation Center was caused by carelessness. Trooper David Jungling issued his report Friday and said the blaze was determined to have been caused by the careless disposal of smoking materials.

Two injured in Mill Street, Taylor accidents
Two people were injured in a pair of accidents Thursday, New Castle police reported. One involved a car that went over an embankment off West Pittsburg Road in Taylor Township around noon.
