NEW CASTLE —
Police said a man who burglarized an East Side tavern broke a hole through a back wall to get inside.
Corbin Blake Partin, 23, of 1011 Beckford St. allegedly was caught inside 26 Bar and Grill on East Washington Street after a burglar alarm sounded about 2 a.m. Wednesday.
A New Castle police officer said he saw a door leading into the bar propped open with an ashtray bucket. He heard the clattering of bottles and went inside, according to reports.
The officer found a man, later identified as Partin, in the dining room with several bottles of beer and liquor in his hands, and he was heading for a door on another side of the building.
The officer found a bottle of beer in Partin’s sweatshirt and noted he was swaying and unsteady, his speech was slurred and a he smelled of alcohol.
Police found a broken access card with Partin’s name on it, lodged in a door on one side of the building Next to it, a hole had been smashed through a wall from outside into the dining room. Debris from the drywall and paneling was strewn into the dining area, the officer noted.
The Shenango Township police arrived as backup and Partin was arrested. He told police two other men had been helping him and he had met them at a convenience mart nearby while putting air in his bicycle tire.
Partin was charged with burglary, criminal trespass, theft, criminal mischief and public drunkenness. He was arraigned by District Judge Melissa A. Amodie, who lodged him in the Lawrence County jail in lieu of $10,000 bond.
