Police: Man beat up woman, faces drug charges

NEW CASTLE — A South Side man was arrested on assault and drug-related charges after allegedly beating up a woman.

Jason M. Cappabianco, 28, of 1502 S. Jefferson St. was  charged yesterday with simple assault, harassment, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police said they found quantities of Clonazepam pills and Suboxone sublingual film, prescribed for maintenance treatment of opioid dependence, in his pockets when they went to his house around 11 p.m. Thursday in response to a domestic disturbance call.

Cappabianco allegedly punched, kicked and threw a woman down the stairs, causing her to temporarily lose consciousness, according to reports. She was treated at Jameson Hospital for her injuries.

Police said Cappabianco was combative during his arrest.

District Judge Melissa A. Amodie set his jail bond at $2,000.

The Lawrence County commissioners have decided to solicit proposals for the private operation of the county jail. Good idea?

Yes. If it’s a more efficient way to run the jail, I’m all for it.
No. I think there would be too many questions of liability for the county.
Not sure. The county seems to be doing a good job of running the jail now. Why break it if it’s not broken?
