NEW CASTLE —
An East Side man shot in the neck Tuesday night is in stable condition in a Youngstown hospital, police said.
Brian Segers, 38, of 1017 Adams St. was taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Health Center following the 8:30 p.m. incident, which occurred in the doorway of the house where he was living with his girlfriend.
New Castle Police Chief Bobby Salem said that typically, Adams Street “is a quiet neighborhood.”
Salem said there was confusion that night about which hospital Segers was going to, because of a delay in the helicopter flight. Initial reports were that he had been taken to Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Segers’ girlfriend told police that she had heard gunshots and he went upstairs holding his bleeding neck, Salem said.
As of Wednesday, the police had no suspect and are waiting to interview Segers.
Salem said there was one eyewitness.
However, the chief would not provide information about how the incident transpired to avoid jeopardizing the investigation.
He said no shell casings were found at the scene.

A New Castle man who hit a tree in Pulaski Township has been admitted to St. Elizabeth Health Center. According to Pulaski Township police, Adam Welsh, 36, of 202 E. Fairmont Ave., was eastbound on Route 422 about 1:30 a.m. Thursday when his pickup truck left the road.
