No one injured, charged in Shenango Township police standoff

NEW CASTLE — No one was injured during a six-hour police standoff in Shenango Township early Saturday.

And police say no one will be charged in the incident either.

According to Shenango Police Superintendent William Phillips, police were called by family members concerned about the well being of a man on Fields Drive off Savannah Road.

Phillips said the man had fired a shot prior to the arrival of officers, but he did not aim at anyone and no one was hurt, the superintendent said.

A letter writer to The News has suggested there’s plenty to be negative about when it comes to the city of New Castle. In general, are you negative or hopeful about our city?

I’m negative. Nepotism, corruption, and incompetence have ruled for years. Nothing has changed.
I’m hopeful. I view the county as a whole, so there’s a lot to be positive about.
Mixed. I think we’re like any other area. You have to take the bad with the good.
