Autopsies set for shooting victims

NEW CASTLE — Autopsies were scheduled yesterday on two North Beaver Township residents who died in an apparent murder suicide Thursday.

Ronald Hartman, 54, and Shirley Rivardo, 50, both of 1674 E. Poland Road, died of apparent gunshot wounds, according to state police. Both were found Thursday afternoon by Bessemer Lake.

Lawrence County Coroner Russell Noga said two shots were fired from a .22-caliber rifle. He said Rivardo was shot in the left temple area and Hartman in the head.

The Mahoning County coroner was scheduled to conduct an autopsy yesterday morning on Rivardo, who died at St. Elizabeth Health Center, Noga said. An autopsy on Hartman was set for yesterday afternoon in Beaver County.

Police said a passerby found Hartman lying on the ground near a pickup truck by the lake at 3:44 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rivardo was discovered inside the pickup truck and was transported to St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Police said preliminary indications are that Hartman shot Rivardo and then shot himself. Police are continuing their investigation.

Milwaukee catcher Martin Maldonado has been suspended five games for sucker punching Pittsburgh’s Travis Snider during a bench clearing brawl on Sunday. You OK with that suspension?

Yes. Seems fair.
No. Baseball NEVER gets it right in these situations. Should have been at least 20 games for his sucker punch into a pile of players.
Not sure, but I’d love to see baseball be like hockey and allow two guys to fight for a while before breaking it up. Let’s see how tough Maldonado is then.
