NEW CASTLE — A Mahoning Township man is wanted for his alleged role in the burglary of a house in Mahoningtown last month.

New Castle police Friday filed charges against Brandon Newman, 22, of 4149 Edinburg Road, who they said had been driving of a blue Dodge Neon near the scene of the burglary on West Cherry Street around 4 a.m. July 25.

Officers found a pair of bolt cutters and fresh blood inside the basement and noticed a pile of cut electrical wires on the floor.

Newman told police he had given a ride to Lesley Ransom Jr., 25, whom he had found walking on Cherry Street carrying a handful of copper.

Ransom was arrested the day of the burglary and told police he and Newman both had gone into the house through the front door, went downstairs and cut the wiring. He said he had cut his finger and Newman was holding the flashlight, according to police reports.

Newman is charged with conspiracy to commit burglary, possessing instruments of crime and criminal attempt at theft.

A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
