Man sentenced in 2010 shooting

NEW CASTLE — A former Mahoningtown man who pleaded guilty to homicide/voluntary manslaughter will serve six to 12 years in a penitentiary.

Michael L. Williams, 36, of 102 S. Liberty St., also was sentenced to serve three to six years in a state correctional facility after pleading guilty to prohibited possession of a firearm. He was given credit for 1,035 days already served.

The sentences, imposed by Lawrence County President Judge Dominick Motto, will be served concurrently.

Williams initially faced eight charges — criminal homicide, two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of simple assault, carrying firearms without a license, prohibited possession of a firearm and recklessly endangering another person.

Williams was charged in the death of Edward Wooten, 39, of Parkwood Court. Wooten was shot in the abdomen while in the parking lot of Player’s Lounge at 808 S. Mill St. about 2:30 a.m. Nov. 21, 2010.
