NEW CASTLE — A North Hill woman is hospitalized in Youngstown following an accident Monday that took down two poles on Mercer Road.

Rebecca Trodden, 45, of 308 E. Leasure Ave. was taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where she is listed in serious condition.

Neshannock Township police said they arrived at the accident scene to find two utility poles had been snapped off and a green Jeep was underneath power lines.

Police said Trodden was driving north on Mercer Road, near Mitchell Road, around 6:35 p.m., apparently at high speed, when her car went off the east side of the road and hit the poles and stopped in a yard.

The Jeep was not removed from the scene until after Penn Power workers arrived to replace the pole, which was leaning over the vehicle, police said.

The Neshannock Township fire department assisted at the scene.
