City man arrested in Ohio case

NEW CASTLE — A New Castle man is being held in the Lawrence County jail for a parole violation in a robbery he committed in Ohio.

A state trooper who was eastbound on Route 422 in Shenango Township around 3:20 p.m. Tuesday said he had seen a car driven by Michael James Yesko, 24, of 804 Sankey St. passing a school bus with its red lights flashing.

The trooper pulled the car over and learned Yesko was wanted on a bench warrant in Trumbull County for the robbery probation violation.

He was committed to the local jail, pending extradition to Ohio.

Yesko faces charges in Mercer and Lawrence counties in Pennsylvania. In November he was charged with retail theft in Hermitage. In September, he was charged with retail theft and robbery in New Castle. Police said he yanked a gold cross necklace from an 87-year-old woman’s neck.

State police are holding him on a new charge of arrest prior to requisition.
